Global baguette chain Upper Crust has launched its first ever UK advertising campaign.

There are 68 Upper Crust stores at train stations and airports across the UK, and the brand is running outdoor and radio ads coupled with experiential activity to spread the word.

Tony Keating, chief executive of parent company SSP UK, said: "Many of the major coffee shop brands have focused on the quality of their coffee or the journey of their beans, but nobody has ever understood how we really feel in the morning and why we need that first cup of coffee - until now."

These remind me of the sharply worded and smartly art directed campaigns you see for quirky restaurants in Lurzers Archive. Without the smart words and sharp art direction.

Yup these look heavily influenced by good advertising. But unfortunately the influence is where the good advertising ends. Big baguettes? Just like you'll find at a dozen other chains. These ads are devoid of any brand personality whatsoever and the crossover between coffee and baguettes is confusing.
