More than 90% of the UK population listens to radio on a weekly basis, a new record according to the latest Rajar reports.

Reporting on the Q1 of 2011, the listening figures saw the total radio listening hours on a weekly basis grow to 1,058 million per week, with 47.3 million adults (91.6%) tuning into radio at some stage each week.

Access to DAB has also grown by 11.2% in comparison with the same period last year to 19.7 million adults, with digital listening increasing by 12.8% annual growth, which meant that 22.3 million people tuned into radio digital each week in comparison to the 19.7 million during Q1 in 2010.

Meanwhile, the figures show that the total BBC Radio network recorded a weekly reach of 31,889,000 listeners, 62% of the audience with BBC Radio 2 proving the most popular with 14,537,000 listeners each week.

Meanwhile, all national commercial radio achieved a combined listening audience of 15,943,000 each week, with a 31% share with the highest single channel audience being delivered by Classic FM with 6,086,000 listeners on a weekly basis in Q1.
