Sony’s recently restored PlayStation Network is the subject of fresh concern today after users detected another security flaw which could allow hackers to gain control of their accounts.

The Japanese electronics giant was forced to shut down its password reset system last night after gamers pointed out that this could be done with just an email address and date of birth – data which was stolen in the April security breach.

Compounding Sony’s embarrassment is the fact that gamers who haven’t reset their password cannot access online services, leading to another indeterminate wait whilst Sony’s engineers battle to rectify the problem.

Already senior executives have been forced to issue grovelling apologies to their customers for the fiasco.
