Former England and Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has been signed up to work on I AM PLAYR, the new online football game.

Dixon has put an undisclosed sum into the game's development and will contribute script and storyline ideas. The game puts players in the boots of a professional player at the fictional River Park FC.

"It allows you to experience the life of a footballer, through the eyes of a footballer," Dixon said. "I’m a huge fan and now want to get more involved in its development.

“So, as well as investing my own money in I AM PLAYR, through owner We R Interactive, I’m excited to be adding my own real-life football experience – both on and off the pitch - to the game’s storylines. I can’t wait to get started on ideas for next season!”

Along with Dixon's signing, We R Interactive claim to have secured "multi-million pound" backing for the game from private investors.

I AM PLAYR is now in the final stages of Beta testing and has attracted 140,000 monthly users. It has enlisted Nike as prinipal brand partner and Ginsters as River Park's shirt sponsors.
