Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs - at last he is named by MP

Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs - at last he is named by MPRyan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs - at last he is named

The media is now free to report that Ryan Giggs has been revealed as the Premier League footballer behind the Super Injunction, after an MP named him in the House of Commons

The media is now reporting that the Manchester United footballer is the one who has prevented the press from revealing he was the footballer, after his name was revealed by Liberal Democrat John Hemming in the House of Commons, while discussing the identity of the protected footballer.

“With about 75,000 people having named Ryan Giggs on Twitter it’s obviously impractical to imprison them all,” Hemming said.

Within minutes, The Guardian and Sky News were reporting the footballer's identity on their websites.

During the session it was announced that a Committee would also be set up to review privacy laws and Super Injunctions.

Just moments before the hearing  went into session, The Sun had failed in a bid to overturn the super Injunction by the footballer at the High Court.

Giggs announced plans to sue Twitter on Friday to force them to reveal the identities of those who had breached the order on the micro-blogging site.

Has this website turned into the Sun? seriously 'The Latest in Creative Marketing and Media' stop reporting to get ad revenue and keep to more design/marketing related content it's boring.

Come on John, this is one of the most important media stories for decades - which takes in the rise of social media, crisis PR issues, sponsorships, the future of the tabloid press as well as more weighty issues such as freedom of speech. The interest in the issue is huge - demonstrated by the fact that this website has had over 70,000 unique visitors today, and 50,000 yesterday.

See your point Gordon, but does 'The only Way is Essex's popularity make it good, or right? It's all very unsavoury and sensationalist in tone, that's all.

I completely disagree, you really think it's that important that 6 out of 15 stories on the main page are devoted to it? Even a whole page dedicated on the newspaper selling on eBay? It's more sensationalism than good journalistic reporting.

This also isn't about freedom of speech, it's about sales that's why the Sun went to court with Thomas and has repeatedly tried to overturn the judgement as they want to look like the purveyors of the truth when in reality they want to shift more copies of their rag. The Drum have gloated about how many unique visitors and rightly so as you can market that for more ad revenue, so you're right to talk about volume rather than quality.

Has The Drum given the Fred Goodwin story as much coverage?? No because he's despised and not as popular as ex-mr squeaky clean Giggs, plus theres a bigger bandwagon to jump on and constantly tweet about.

Oh Mr John Owens, if you can't see the relevance of this in relation to the media you are a foolish, foolish man.

It is about sales, you're right - it's also about the future of the newspaper industry. BTW, almost all things boil down to sales, or hadn't you noticed?

Anon 16.57. I could be wrong, but I think the objection is to the way this story appears here. It's all 'look, look, we named him, we named him!' as opposed to. 'After all the hype, let's look at the real issues behind the sensationalist facade'. I didnt see too many of Gordon's 'kewords' in the actual story - media, sponsorship, social networking etc.

I can clearly see the relationship between this and the media it's called money.

Does the design/marketing press need to revolve around sales? yes of course but you can still have some class about the way your report things, just look at the headline for proof.

Is there an injunction preventing the reporting of the reasons why anyone gives a shit what two adults do in their own time? All the people who care about this need to get a life.

Didn't think The Drum did a bad job here - the story went up a few minutes after Giggs was named in Parliament. If you take all the coverage as a whole that is where you get insights into all the different issues. The one which interests me is the Sunday Herald. Many were writing that paper off a few weeks ago. I think their handling of this has been nothing short of sensational. Has really built the reputation of Richard Walker and could well safe an important Scottish title. That alone is a pretty important issue that has been reflected here.

I only hope that strumpet is happy now. Poor bryan and his lovely wife and kids will be in bits over this. She should be ashamed of herself. She is trying to ruin the poor blokes career and its so unfair. She sullies the good name of big brother contestants worldwide.

Let's get even more 'red top' :-)....about the MP who blurted it out...

"Shortly after his election in 2005, he made headlines when it was revealed that he was the father of a child with his personal assistant and fellow councillor Emily Cox, though he would stay with his wife and her three children. His wife Christine commented that she forgave him and is standing by him, as he has always been honest about his extramarital affairs, of which she said this was "about number 26".[18][19] Following the publication of details of the affairs, Hemming voted for himself for the News of the World's 'Love Rat of the Year' competition.[20] In 2010, his wife appeared in court charged with stealing his mistresses' cat.[16] Pleading "not guilty" on 7 February 2011, she was bailed and sent for trial in June.[21]"

The headline is just playfully alluding to football chants - perhaps you should head off and listen to some Bach Mr Owens, and take yourself away from these fearful ruffians.

playful? It's just lazy and adolescently excited. Sure;y 'He's fu**ed, and he knows he is' would have been more appropriate if you're sticking to the chant thing?

I mean, really, who actually cares? Personally, I think Giggs was daft getting a super injunction anyway.
