PizzaExpress has today launched an iPhone app that allows diners to pay for their meal on a mobile phone.
The restaurant chain claims its free to download app will be ideal for people in a rush and says it will make waiting for the bill a thing of the past.
To ensure customers will be able to get a signal for the app, PizzaExpress is rolling out free WiFi from The Cloud at its 370 UK restaurants.
As well as allowing diners to pay for their meal - which is done using Paypal - the app also allows them to book a table in the first place, view menus, offer codes and receipts.
Mark Angela, chief executive of PizzaExpress, said: "We knew there was no point just launching an app for the sake of it, so we waited until we had a system that could genuinely improve our customers’ experience of eating out at PizzaExpress. We believe today’s version does exactly that and we’re looking forward to developing it in the future.”

Clever. It removes the need for Pizza Express to use a merchant device, thus removing a fee. Very clever. It also puts the fee on the diner. I really like it.
So they pay PayPal's fee instead...
People in a rush?
Really, They can't wait 60 seconds to attract a waitor and pay the bill? I'd be keen to know who's paying the PayPal fees.
An App which says which supermarkets and when are selling Pizza Express pizzas buy 1 get 1 free. Now that would be useful.
