The Netherlands has become the first country in Europe to bar two-tier internet, banning mobile phone operators from charging consumers more using for certain sites.
The lower house of the Dutch parliament voted mainly in favour of the law of net neutrality, with the senate expected to follow suit.
Under the law, operators will also not be allowed to block sites such as Skype from smartphones, which it has been suggested will lead to the operators charging more.
If passed, this could have an effect on the European Union’s debate on net neutrality.
