British security firm Precreate Solutions is apparently going to offer a ‘virtual update’ service while people are on holiday to stop thieves from knowing they are away.

According to the Telegraph, the security firm, which provides other services such as mobile security patrols and key holding, have started to offer clients a ‘virtual update’ service of pre-approved updates and Tweets to be scheduled while the client is away.

Gary Jackson, company director of the firm said: “Putting up a Facebook posting of photographs on a beach to 300-400 ‘friends’ is like leaving an advert on your door to a burglar telling him when you will be out.”

Of course, unless the client is someone who usually updates Facebook on an hourly basis, maybe it would be better – and cheaper – to just not mention they were going away at all.

If people get burgled because of Facebook they've only got themselves to blame. I use Facebook but not to a degree like others who flaunt their entire lives on it!

Couldn't this be an opportunity for Facebook to install a 'schedule message' feature?
