London black cab drivers have launched an app to help customers hail a taxi on their iPhone, using GPS.

The LDNtaxi app calculates where the customer is using the phone’s GPS, allowing customer to see how many taxis are in a two mile radius, showing the likelihood of getting a cab.

It also alerts nearby taxi drivers to the customer, and when a driver accepts the fare, the customer is sent a picture of the driver as well as details such as the colour of the cab and the registration plate.  They are also asked to confirm details of the fare.

When the fare is confirmed, the customer receives a message when the taxi has arrived.
