Scottish radio station Capital FM has asked permission from Ofcom to change the format of the station to focus on a younger audience.

Ofcom is now asking the public for views on the change, which would see the station change from providing "a fresh dynamic mix of new rock and dance music for Central Scotland for listeners below 39, with at least 30 hours a week of identifiable specialist music programmes” to "a rhythmic-based music-led service for 15-29 year-olds supplemented with news, information and entertainment. The service should have particular appeal for listeners in their 20s and at least 12 hours a week of identifiable specialist music programmes".

The consultation period opened today and will close on 28 July. 

While the Ofcom consultation focuses on the Scottish Capital FM, the Birmingham Capital FM is also seeking permission to change.
