Lawyer Paul McBride has admitted that he will represent former News of the World editor and head of communications for the Government, Andy Coulson, should charges be brought against him.

McBride confirmed to The Firm that he would act as legal counsel to Coulson should he be charged, having been interviewed by police last week over payments made to police officers for information during his time as editor of the News of the World.

His testimony during Tommy Sheridan’s perjury trial will also be considered with Strathclyde Police having been instructed by the Crown office to investigate.

McBride however, stressed to The Firm that no criminal charges had yet been brought in relation to Coulson.

He had previously failed to respond to questions from the media as to whether he had been approached to represent Coulson, having previously represented Gail Sheridan.

Good to see this learned gentleman confirm on TV that that Tommy "Firedin"* was guilty as charged.

*His fellow lags nicknamed this because he "fired in" everyone else rather than do the right thing!
