Today, management at the Daily Record and Sunday Mail are expected to hand letters to each of the journalists involved in the consultation process over proposed redundancies, with nine expected to be handed compulsory redundancy next week.

The letters will explain to each member of the editorial team whether they will remain at the Trinity Mirror newspaper or not.

Yesterday, further talks were held between the NUJ and senior management at the newspaper with 45 journalists having already accepted voluntary redundancy. A further 26 were expected to be given compulsory redundancy, making a total of 71, less than originally announced following discussions with the union.

It is understood that some members of the Sunday Mail team have been given a stay of executive for a month to see how the title fares in picking up readership following the closure of the News of the World.

Paul Holleran, NUJ organiser for Scotland told The Drum that despite ongoing talks, the company would proceed to make nine editorial jobs redundant.

Originally 90 redundancies were announced last month, which led to the NUJ setting up a Facebook campaign against the process.
