Dundee-headquartered newspaper publishing company, DC Thomson, is making full use of the marketing capabilities of its subsidiary - Aberdeen Journals - in a bid to boost the sales of its flagship newspaper – the Sunday Post.

Making a pitch for the circulation vacuum created by the demise of the Scottish News of the World,  the publisher   placed  a full -page advertisement in the  Aberdeen Evening Express  last night  and a large display advertisement  in its regional daily  , the Press and Journal, today, providing  readers with  a voucher for a 55p discount on this week’s Sunday Post.

Other promotional inducements being used by this weekend’s Sunday Post include a £100,000 cash giveaway, a new 32-page entertainment pull-out, a free copy of My Weekly magazine, and a guarantee of 29 pages of sport.

Meantime, The Scottish Sun will launch a new, weekend football magazine - Ballistic - tomorrow.

The new giveaway magazine will be one of three titles to be included in tomorrow’s tabloid.

Ballistic will join celebrity and TV listings magazine, Buzz, as well as former News of the World magazine, Fabulous, which last week shifted to Saturday’s edition of the red-top following closure of the Sunday paper.
