Rangers Football Club has reached 200,000 followers on Facebook, which it says is the largest backing of any Scottish team.

The Facebook page for the club launched on 11 July.

Ali Russell, chief operating officer for Rangers, said: “We are delighted the Club's new Facebook page has reached 200,000 followers which is a phenomenal total since our launch just over four weeks ago and highlights the unwavering commitment and loyalty of our fanbase worldwide.

“Social media is leading the way in instant news and it is fantastic so many of our supporters can now keep up to date with all the latest news wherever they are not only on Facebook but also on our recently launched Twitter page which will expand the Rangers brand all over the world.

“The signings of American stars Carlos Bocanegra and Alejandro Bedoya is also boosting the club’s profile worldwide and thousands of American users are now visiting our official web site www.rangers.co.uk and our new Official Facebook page which is proving to be a runaway success.”
