The Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Daily Mirror have removed seven pictures of Kate Middleton and Prince William from their websites and been ordered never republish them following a ruling by the Press Complaints commission.

The Middleton family had complained that the images, taken whilst the family were sunbathing and swimming from a boat on holiday to Ibiza five years ago, had invaded their privacy.

Law firm Harbottle & Lewis successfully argued that the images were taken from a place where the family had a “reasonable expectation of privacy”, in contravention of the editor’s code of practice.

All three papers unsuceessfully defended the publication, arguing that the pics had been published several times since 2006 without complaint and that the Middleton’s didn’t have a reasonable expectation of privacy “at the location in which the boat was situated.”
