Branding and design consultancy Silk Pearce has worked with Royal Mail to develop collectors' products to mark the centenary of the first UK airmail flight.

The consultancy designed a presentation pack showcasing a miniature sheet of commemorative stamps to celebrate the 9 September 1911 event, as well as a first day cover, insert card and two special postmarks, based on the original hand stamp from 1911 and the Aerial Post ‘arrow and aircraft propeller’ logo.

The presentation pack includes photographs of archive materials from The British Postal Museum and Archive (BPMA), the RAF Museum and still images from original film footage supplied by British Pathé.

Dean Price, design manager at Royal Mail, said: “Silk Pearce worked with us to develop a striking and informative presentation pack and first day cover.  We hope both pieces are a fitting tribute to these pioneering aviators who made postal history.”
