McCann's Bristol directors open new marketing consultancy The Big Story

Former McCann Erickson Bristol directors Jon Dunbar and Paul Gillow have opened a new consultancy, The Big Story.

The paid have opened the agency which claims to offer ‘a more flexible agency model’ that will focus on client collaboration and long-term relationships.

Dunbar was director at McCann’s Bristol for almost two years, having previously served as group account director at McCann’s Manchester, while Gillow had spent five-and-a-half years with the agency before the two left in August.

“Within the current economic climate, we see a real opportunity for a more agile agency approach, afforded by a smarter, flexible way of working. We see a strong need to keep things straightforward and practical, working in partnership, rather than simply for clients, where ultimately the relationship between client and agency is more rewarding” commented Dunbar.

Gillow continued: “The old adage ‘the larger you are, the slower you move’ has never been more relevant in our view. Our model centres entirely on added client value and greater speed to market.” Based around the powerful art of brand storytelling, we have set up a fluid partnership model that allows a team of 'ex-big agency' discipline specialists to be built around the specific client brief, integrated and managed effectively and efficiently to make the most of budgets. All partners are owners of their own specialist businesses meaning they really care about what they deliver. “

Dunbar added: “In today’s communications reality, the fragmentation of communication channels sees brand owners struggle to portray a common voice.  Large fixed agency resources don’t always have the adequate expertise to service individual client requirements and may not cover all disciplines effectively to a level demanded and deserved by clients.  The initial feedback we have received is very encouraging and clearly supports our ‘back to basics’ model and vision. The Big Story will offer a much smarter, creative and efficient way to do business now and in the future.”

The agency will be based in Bath and is already working with Acorne PLC’s brand portfolio of clients including Virgin Experience Days, Leisure Vouchers, Virgin Vouchers and Exhilaration.
