A YouGov survey has found that Facebook is the most popular social media platform for promote SMEs.

The survey of 550 senior business decision makers working within SME’s found that just over a quarter of SMEs (26%) preferred to use Facebook over other platforms, just ahead of LinkedIn (25%) and Twitter (21%).

YouTube picked up 10%, while it was found that businesses were turning to social media for self-promotion according to 56% of respondents.

Differences were found regionally however, with only 39% of SMEs in the East of England never using social media, in comparison with 64% in the North.

The majority of SMEs were also found not to use blogs for self-promotion (88%) although of the 11% who did use blogs, 80% claimed that it was a successful self-promotional tool.
