The Edinburgh & Lothian Herald & Post has been scrapped by Scotsman Publications.

The weekly freesheet released its final edition on 23 October and was then closed, after it was decided that the publication was ‘no longer financially viable’.

One editorial member of staff at the newspaper was involved with the newspaper and has now been transferred to the Edinburgh Evening News explained Scotsman publications managing director of The Scotsman Publications, Andrew Richardson.

Meanwhile, Hold the Front Page is reporting that after a six-week break in publication, following the liquidation of Forth Independent Newspapers, four weekly newspapers, the Wee County News, Strathallan News, Allanwater News and Eastside News, have resume publishing.

A number of the seven journalists who lost their jobs when Forth close, have also been rehired.

New owner HUB media commented: “HUB Media, part of HUB Publishing (Scotland) have purchased the assets of Forth Independent Newspapers Limited and we are looking forward to being able to deliver the news to the residents in those communities.”

The deal does not include three other titles owned by Forth Independent; The East Kilbride News, Eastwood Today and Avondale Mail.
