The X Factor acts join together for Marks and Spencer Christmas campaign

The Christmas campaign for Marks & Spencer ran for the first time last night during The X Factor eviction programme, featuring finalists from the show itself.

The 16 acts featuring in this year’s live shows join together to perform When you Wish Upon A Star in the advert, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R.

The campaign will run until the X Factor final next month.

Steve Sharp, executive director of marketing at Marks and Spencer, said: "Our TV campaigns have become almost legendary and for many customers mark the start of Christmas.

"This year we wanted to surprise them with something really special and I think we've delivered.

"The X Factor version of the song is simply magical, giving a contemporary twist to a Christmas classic, just like M&S this year."

It's a bit of a mess this really. It would have been fine without the X Factor no hopers involvement - but tries to fit in too much into a really simple idea. This is going to get annoying very quickly.

The X-Factor is more Iceland than M&S.

I just had a little bit of sick in my mouth. Truly awful and not where they should be taking the brand at all. Undermines the sassy stuff they've been doing recently.
