Rumours spread around Twitter last night about the death of Radio Clyde DJ Tiger Tim Stevens have proven to be a hoax.

Tweets were sent last night asking whether rumours that Stevens had died were true, with STV’s John McKay at one stage tweeting that the station had looked into the rumour but was unable to confirm whether it was accurate.

Bauer was also unaware of the rumours, with the broadcaster’s PR representative only learning about them when contact by The Drum earlier this morning.

Now Stevens has tweeted about the messages, confirming that they were not true, by saying: “News spread I was dead. It was a cruel hoax & very upsetting for my mother (91) & family. I'm alive & well.”

A spokesperson for Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 said: "This was a disgusting hoax, which caused a lot of unnecessary upset for Tiger Tim's family.

"He is a much loved personality, very close to the hearts of everyone at Clyde 1 and Clyde 2. We are very glad there is no truth to these horrible rumours."

Tiger Tim has been a fixture of Scottish airwaves since the 70’s, predominantly working for Radio Clyde across both Clyde 1 and Clyde 2. In 1987, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, but has worked on despite this.

In 2006, his charitable work and contribution to Scottish broadcasting was rewarded with an MBE.
