Stuart Feather, co-founder of Carat Edinburgh, formerly Feather Brooksbank, the Aegis owned media planning and buying company, has left the company.

At the time of writing little information was available, but it is understood that his final day was yesterday (Friday 18 November) and that co-founder Giles Brooksbank remains with the agency.

Last month, Aegis announced that Feather Brooksbank would rebrand as Carat Edinburgh in November, with the Manchester office of Feather Brooksbank merging with Carat Manchester and Edinburgh – with the account team moving to Carat Manchester.

However the recruitment arm of the business retained the Feather Brooksbank moniker.

Under the move, Carat Edinburgh now reported to Tracy De Groose, managing director of Carat UK.

Feather and Brooksbank launched the agency in 1991, and then sold it to Aegis for a sum of £7.5m in 1999. Their earn-out period expired in 2003, although both remained to run the offices in Edinburgh and Manchester.

No one from Aegis or Carat had responded to The Drum’s enquiries for further information at the time of writing although sources close to the company had confirmed Feather's departure.

This really is the end of an era. I had a Guinness with him the day he quit Halls to launch Feathers Brooksbank. I never guessed at that point the dramatic difference he would make to the Scottish scene. There is no doubt the unique Feather/Bnooksbank double act was transformational as far as the Scottish industry was concerned. Suspect he is not the type to simply bow out and look forward to seeing what he plans to do next.

Yes - end of an era just about sums it up and I'll miss those whacky goldfish pictures all over the agency. As we've seen in London etc, the days when you could put your own names over the door are now indeed becoming a distant memory.

It would be good to think that the media business can continue to be shaped by such personalities, and not just the big corporate names, but it's now a very different world out there to what it was in 1991. Happy days though they were!

Stuart is a legend. I am positive his experience and insight will be widely sought after in the marketplace. Also rubbing my hands in anticipation of him having more free time for a proper swally in the Canny Mans.
