Twitter is rife with rumours over several big names being sacked from The Daily Record.

Bob Caldwell, Jim Traynor and Derek Stewart Brown are understood to be among those rumoured to be leaving the Scottish newspaper.

It is also being reported that executive editor Tom Hamilton is among the list of those who have lost their jobs.

A Trinity Mirror spokesman said: "We can confirm we have entered into a confidential period of consultation with four senior members of staff from Media Scotland."

More information as we receive it.

UPDATED: Sports editor Jim Traynor has contacted The Drum to state that he does not intend on leaving the newspaper, despite his name being mentioned on Twitter this morning.

It is understood that the four are in consultation about their future roles within the company, rather than facing redundancy.

It would be not only a mistake but a huge surprise if Jim Traynor , the most respected football journalist was to be sacked.............
It doesnt make sense, considering the way he has led the biggest football story in the history of Scottish football
