Trinity Mirror chief exec reveals financial 'pressure' and deniesTrinity Mirror chief executive Sly Bailey has revealed the financial pressures the company is under and claimed that she has never seen any evidence of phone hacking at the Daily Mirror or any other titles published by the company.
Speaking at the Leveson Inquiry yesterday, Bailey said that she had never been shown any evidence of phone hacking taking place at the newspapers, following claims that the paper’s story of Ulrika Jonsson’s affair with Sven-Goran Eriksson had been as a result of such practices.
“We have only seen unsubstantiated allegations and I have seen no evidence to show me that phone hacking has ever taken place at Trinity Mirror,” stated Bailey.
Bailey also revealed that the company was facing ‘intense’ commercial pressure and said that its regional division was like “a knife falling that is getting sharper on the way down.”
"The business has been under the most intense cyclical pressure as a result of the economic situation," she also told Lord Leveson.
