Dundee-based publishers, DC Thomson, has emphatically declared its confidence in the future of newspapers.

The publishing company yesterday used its flagship newspaper, The Sunday Post, to portray its optimism in the industry.

In a prominent news story, The Sunday Post highlighted how two of its most established publications, both regional mornings – the Aberdeen-based Press and Journal and The Courier, based in Dundee – have switched from broadsheet to compact format to meet reader demand.

It pointed out: ”Readers are at the centre of such changes – you want easier-to-read, user-friendly papers with the same top-class content. And that’s what we've delivered.”

And it added: “And your favourite family read, The Sunday Post, has continued to develop to meet your high expectations too.

“In the last exciting year we’ve added more colour, more pages, and launched two fantastic full-colour travel and entertainment supplements.

“Our new-improved sports sections offer unrivalled coverage while we continue to provide a brilliant blend of news, features and amazing reader competitions.”

And the paper declared: “DC Thomson has a proud newspaper heritage and we believe the industry can have a bright future.

“Our continued investment and development demonstrates our commitment to that future – and most importantly to you, our readers.”
