Ofcom has begun a consultation process following the BBC’s acquisition of non-exclusive broadcast rights for the London 2012 Olympic Games, with many events due to be streamed through its digital terrestrial services.

The consultation will run until 14 February in order to gauge reaction from other broadcasters and interested parties, as the additional streams being used by the BBC, including coverage broadcast through its website, as well as through satellite, cable and digital terrestrial broadcasts, will not be receivable by the necessary amount of the population.

The requisite percentage of population receiving the coverage would need to be at least 95% for the contract to go ahead without an Ofcom consultation, before consent can be granted fully for the BBC to broadcast the 'relevant listed events'.
