A teacher has been disciplined after being found guilty of making “inappropriate and improper” remarks on a personal Facebook page which was accessed by pupils.

Elizabeth Scarlett, a former teacher at Trinant Primary School, Caerphilly, was accused of discussing being “100% naughty and liking to party hard” by presenting officer Louise Price at a disciplinary panel hearing.

Price told the panel: “She used Facebook to freely discuss her favourite pupils, she talks about the best site to buy sex toys, her sexual preferences and talks about alcohol with an 11-year-old."

Defending the remarks Price claimed that the sexual content had been posted by a former partner and that she had thought the account had been set to the highest privacy setting.

As authorship could not be proved Price was given an official reprimand which will remain on her employment record for two years.

Social media experts recommend that teachers set up separate social media sites to communicate with pupils.

Price had a total of 81 friends on the social networking site – 32 of which were former pupils.
