Glasgow ad agency Clayton Graham closes its doors after 18 years

Glasgow advertising agency Clayton Graham is understood to have gone into liquidation.

The company, which was founded by managing director Peter Clayton and creative director Mark Graham in 1993, is said to have informed all staff to go home yesterday afternoon (9 February).

The agency last year reclaimed its long standing advertising account with opticians Black & Lizars, while its website also said that it worked with brands such as Maxxium, Braehead, Sterling Mills and Audi.

Clayton confirmed the closure, stating the agency's bank, Barclays, had withdrawn its support of the agency.

"Our audited account are a matter for public record and our balance sheet is in excess of £650,000. How on earth this has happened, I have no idea," he stated.

It is understood that the agency owned its multi-storey offices in Sandyford Place in Glasgow's West End.

Assumed we'd get absolutely murdered. Thank you The Drum. Faith in mankind partially restored. Need to go, humble pie just about done.

Very, very, sad, great agency, great staff, great customers, and great pals... Clearly shows that the bankers are more interested in their bonuses than their grass route customers.

Sad, sad, sad... what a great bunch of professionals, with a great knack of hiring stunning looking female staff too! Sorry to hear this, I had hoped they would have weathered the blizzard...

"How on earth has this happened" indeed. A great agency with great people. I've had many dealings with the agency over the years - all of them positive experiences. And with Alasdair in particular who is a consumate professional and one of the good guys. Real shame. Good luck guys.

It's incredibly sad, not only to see such a long-standing agency close it's doors, but also to see so many good people now without a job. Best of luck guys.

A damn shame to see a great company like this, run by two of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet in this industry simply vanish from the Scottish creative scene... and just like that.

Anybody who is prepared to put their own names in the company name is worthy of extra merit and just shows how much of a damn they give.

Sad time indeed.

It's been almost 4 years since I left Clayton Graham, and I still miss working in that office. I suppose, you never forget your first agency! Great people, every single one.

I'm more than a little sad that I didn't go back to visit, and now I'll never be able to.

Having been a CGC employee and now a CGC client, I know these are good boys and girls. Sad news for the company and the Scottish marcoms scene generally. A difficult time at the moment I know for those involved but the cream always rises, and that applies to good boys and girls too.

I simply can't believe it - I have some great memories of a great agency, no banker can ever take from me. Immensely talented people that cared about the concept, the work and the client. I feel forever in debt for the experience and friendship I still hold dear.

Farewell CG but not goodbye forever, I hope. I am sure that the experience, insights and quality output of the last couple of decades will stand you and your team in good stead when.searching for a new start elsewhere. Whatever the economic conditions, quality staff will always be in demand.

I started at CG in 1998 fresh out of College, advice then was to stay at an agency for 2 years then move on, but I couldn't bring myself to leave for 10 years. Great agency and talented people. Still have fond memories and will be forever in debt for the experience I gained. Sadly another casualty of RBS going pop. Hopefully the staff will be able to move on.

The banks have a lot to answer for! If there's anyone who can run a company well it's Peter...I'm sure you'll be up and running again shortly. All the best

British banks need to be supporting British business not pulling out of it - the banks got the country into this mess and they need to help us get out of it.
Good luck to everyone from CG.

This is the real face of small and medium companies. Don't believe the SNP hype, there is no support for creative Talent in Scotland. Hang your head in shame minister for the arts or whatever it is you pretend that you do

At first I thought it was nothing but a nasty rumour. Really sad to hear this news. Hat off to the managment team for making sure that the staff had a new home to go to. Shows understanding of the value of what they have build. Well done CG and good luck with your new home!

Sad news indeed. You guys have made a positive impact on the industry in the last 18 years and I am sure you will continue to do so once the dust settles. Good luck chaps and hope to see you soon.

So sorry to hear about this. You guys were a dream to work with. Every time budgets were slashed when I worked as your client you still managed to come up with something freash, vibrant and challenging even on less than a shoestring. A sad loss to the Scottish media scene.
