The first advert to be custom designed for the as yet untapped canine market is to be broadcast on ITV1 tonight.

Featuring high-pitched sounds that cannot be heard by humans and a range of whistles and barks, the minute long commercial is intended to prick the ears of any pet dogs snoozing in the living room.

The unconventional approach has been dreamt up by dog food manufacturer Bakers who believe that provoking pets into barking at the screen is a sure fire way of encouraging their owners to purchase their wares.

Most dogs are expected to react to the commercial by pricking their ears and tilting their heads toward the screen – whilst a minority may attempt to hide behind the sofa.

Any four legged readers interested in catching the ad should tune into ITV1 at 19:15 tonight during an ad break in Emmerdale.
