A giant coffin shaped pie shown as part of a billboard campaign by animal rights group Peta has sparked controversy for its claims that eating meat is linked to obesity.
With the tagline ‘Not Ready to Meat Your Maker? Fight obesity, go vegan’ the provocative message was displayed outside a new mortuary designed specifically for the obese in Gloucester.
Rounding on the insensitive ad Tam Fry, a member of the National Obesity Forum, branded it “laughable” and a blatant attempt to capitalise on the misfortune of others.
Fry added: “We want to do all we can to lessen obesity but I do not think it appropriate at all to draw attention to it in this manner.”
Yvonne Taylor from Peta countered: “The best thing that coffin dodgers can do for their health and to help animals is to go vegan.”
